Florence Nightingale

The Minister for War pays your family a visit to recruit your servant, Jim, to serve in the Crimea. It’s not fair that only men risk their lives, so you defy your father and go to nursing school. Your peers look down on you because you’re posh, but you persevere – and bring changes that will influence nursing forever.

In this Experience, your class will learn about:

  • Florence Nightingale’s work in the Crimean War
  • Conditions in field hospitals and Florence’s developments in nursing, e.g. hygiene, food and equipment
  • The role of women in Victorian Times

Resources for each Experience include:

  • For EYFS, Actions Storyboard, Song Sheet and Script
  • For Key Stages 1 & 2, Storyboard, Quiz, Reading Comprehension, Writing Opportunities and Script
