Create Partnership Trust is a multi-academy trust with four primary schools in and around Birmingham — Brookfields Primary School, Conway Primary School, Greet Primary School and Hodge Hill Primary School. The trust uses their now>press>play subscription across all schools to extend pupils’ life experiences, support learning for all, particularly SEND pupils, as well as to improve vocabulary and inspire creative writing.
What areas has now>press>play helped with?
It helps all children access the curriculum, particularly History, Geography, Science and PSHE topics. It has improved these areas of the curriculum by creating some diversity in the lessons and offers a range of different learning techniques for pupils.
I walked past the sessions and was immediately taken in — it made me want to do an Experience myself!

In what ways have you found the Experiences have helped pupils understand the topic of diversity?
We have found that a lot of the now>press>play Experiences match our curriculum topics. For example, we have planned to teach about diversity and different cultures in our lessons. now>press>play helps us by allowing children to listen and digest information in a way they find manageable and engaging.
I love hearing stories from the past. It was fun and I would do this again!
Pupil, Brookfields Primary School
What difference do the immersive Experiences make to extending pupils’ life experiences and world knowledge?
Pupils are able to experience places and times in history that they may not be able to go to or see in real life. In addition to this, they are able to have experiences around the world and talk about these places and what happened there.
In what ways has now>press>play helped with pupils’ vocabulary?
Pupils listen carefully and some have shown signs of picking up the meaning of new words through the Experience, and by copying others.
The pupils were fully immersed in the Experience and it prompted some amazing diary entries from the perspective of a Victorian child. What an engaging way to learn historical facts!

Which children do you feel have benefitted most from now>press>play?
SEND children and children who struggle in particular subjects have become more inspired to learn about different topics because of the immersive and accessible nature of the Experiences.
I enjoyed now>press>play because it felt real.
