A Teacher’s Experience at now>press>play

Hi, my name is Jemima and I am a 27 year old ex- teacher who is currently undertaking work experience at now>press>play’s head office in Hackney.

Having taught across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 for five years at a south London primary school, I was ready to take my career in a new direction. I was lucky enough to use now>press>play in my class last year and at 27 years old, took the plunge and emailed, to see  if there was any available work experience.

When using now>press>play’s Online Safety Experience with my Year 1 class, I was struck by the balance between the simple technology and how effective the resource was.

As all teachers know, anything that can get 30 energetic 5 year old’s following instructions is something to remember. And once you have seen your class pretending to be sucked through a computer screen no other drama activity will ever be the same!

The same can be said for the training sessions now>press>play provide, seeing your Assistant Head pretend to be a koala ‘swinging through the trees’ is an image I will never forget!

Ultimately, the Online Safety Experience was so memorable for the students that they would constantly remind me to be safe online during any subsequent computing sessions.

Despite being told that most work experience students are completing their GCSE’S (!) I have had the best time here at EdSpace. now>press>play is a fantastic resource and I’ve seen first hand the enjoyment and academic achievement it inspires in children. Working as part of the office team has enabled me to see the logistics, finance and marketing skills which goes into running a successful social enterprise.

During my time at now>press>play, I was tasked with editing and updating the accompanying worksheets for the SATs Maths, Reading and SPAG experiences. As a qualified teacher, Alice wanted advice on language and skills outlined in the curriculum and asked me to make sure all questions were aligned fully with what teachers are teaching in class. I loved using my knowledge of the curriculum to adapt and create these resources to inspire children’s learning further.

I have had the best time with the team here and I can’t wait to see how now>press>play grows and develops the Experiences to continue enabling children to learn through different ways.
